Albany Bulb Bench Project
It started with Maxi. When he joined our family as a 4-month old pupper, I started visiting the Bulb almost every day so he could run around off-leash. I developed a strong appreciation for the wild landscape and the people I met there, and I felt a growing desire to give back in some way. One day, I came upon two women, one with a walker, one with two canes, They were each trying to rest, one by perching on a chunk of concrete rubble, one by leaning against a signpost. I went home, built a bench frame, came back to find driftwood for the seat, and installed it the same day. Since then, I've built and installed many benches at the Bulb - some by special request, some to fill an obvious need. Some benches have migrated to new locations, some have been poached for other purposes or art installations, and at least one has been stolen. I love to see people resting on them while they enjoy the sea air, watch the wildlife, or treat their doggos.
