I am an Open Book

I created this paper garment in a bookmaking workshop at the Feather River Art Camp. First I pilfered a big sheet of (white) hand-made paper from the paper-making workshop next door. Then I threw it into a mud muddle, added handfuls of things I found around camp like wild berries and lichens, splattered on some inks, and smooshed it all around with my bare feet. I created a book-binding dovetail joint in the middle, and molded it with fabric starch to fit my own torso. After curing in the sun, I finished the edges and added some straps. For the show-and-tell on the final day of camp, by wearing this creation I was an "open book" and people got to ask me any question they wanted.
